Jewell (Duncil) Cress '40

Hello, my name is Tammy Williams and I am writing about my mother Jewell (Duncil) Cress, who grew up on the same road that Mt. Carmel is on.  She is 83 now and often talks about the years when she and her brothers and sisters attended Mt. Carmel.  I have heard several stories about Mr. Swauger and Miss Day and several about   Miss McConnell,  after whom one of my uncles was named

Mom attended Mt. Carmel from 1935-1939.  Her family moved to Middletown, Ohio and she graduated from Gratis High School in 1940.  The elementary school she went to was War Creek.  I bring her back every summer to visit her sister's grave there beside the school in the Lawson graveyard.

I have always enjoyed the stories about that time and place, the old swinging bridge and the gladiolus that spelled out the words Mt. Carmel on the hillside.  Please feel free to write me if you have any questions about the school during that time period.  My mother would be happy to recall some more fond memories with you.
