Daniel  & Becky (Schember) Deal '93--UPDATE

From Dan's wife, Becky:

Dan was home for his 2 week visit in June.   These pictures are from that time.  He left to go back to Iraq on June 21.  Since he arrived back in Iraq, they were doing their convoy security missions for awhile and then word came that most of their unit would transferred up to the Abu Graib prison in Baghdad.  I am very thankful for this change, as I feel it is a safer job than being on the roads everyday.  He will be working a 13 hour shift everyday (1 am - 2 pm).  The US soldiers actually sleep in the prison cells, while the prisoners stay outside in secured tents.  The prison cells are much safer for the soldiers when they have mortar attacks.  The conditions at this camp are not near as comfortable as the other camp he was at, but we are thankful that he does have air conditioning in his cell and he is still able to call or e-mail home on most days.  He notices the high heat a lot more at this camp, as they have to walk 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile to get to their work site, chow hall, phone/computer building, etc.

The heat & lack of good sleep take their toll.  He says the heat is almost unbearable since they have to wear all their body armor while on duty & he is outside most of the time during his shift.  He said that thankfully the temps have been in the 120's lately, rather than the 140's.

Please continue to keep him in your prayers!
