I went on to KMBI (now KMBC) and graduated from there at the top of my class. I went on to Asbury College, validating the Bible school courses I had taken in order to be a sophomore at college. My undergraduate work was in premed, and I secured a Master of Nursing degree from Case Western in Cleveland, Ohio. Following graduation from there, I was married to David William Lee (a graduate of KMBI in the same class) who had just graduated from Asbury Seminary with his Master of Divinity degree.

We were placed under appointment to Kenya with World Gospel Mission and left for the field in December of 1960 with our toddler daughter. Our second daughter was born in Kenya, and our third child, a son, was born in the US on our first furlough. It was at that time that we spent an extended furlough in the States and taught for two years at Circleville Bible College in Ohio. Returning then to Kenya, we completed three terms of service total in various capacities before being asked to join the administrative staff at WGM Headquarters. There my husband was given direction of several fields in Field Ministries, and I did editorial work in the Publications Department. Five years before our retirement from WGM, we worked together in Prayer Ministries encouraging the faithful prayer support across America of our missionaries.

When we left WGM, we made our home in Lewiston, Idaho, near my aged father after my mother's death. There I used my nursing skills again in Home Health for more than five years. We then moved back to northern Ohio into the farm country which was David's stomping grounds during his youth. We are happy in our retirement home -- a gift from the Lord.

During these days, I have worked with my sister and brothers on a book now published titled, "The Darkest Time is Just Before the Dawn." It tells the story of the grueling and triumphant years our parents spent in pioneering the work for WGM in Kenya. Also, I have made quilts for each of our children and our granddaughter. Otherwise...it is life as usual!!!

Sincerely,
Anna Verne (Smith) Lee, '49
