Fifty-five years ago 18 members of the Mt. Carmel Class of 1952 received our high school diplomas from Dr. Lela G. McConnell. Since then four of our members have gone to the next level (Bob Carroll, Betty Lain Cartwright, Patsy Major and Betty Small Faris have left us.) Class members attending our 55th reunion at The Old Country Inn in Jackson, KY were Richard Cartwright, Naomi Arnett Dunn, Betty Ballard Caudill, Dorothy Bryant Auton, Shirley Meade Hole and Robert Cundiff.
Betty and Naomi had invested much thought, hard work and expense to provide decorations, table favors, door prizes and group pictures of our Eighth Grade, Freshman and Senior pictures. After a well chatted meal consisting of both serious and humorous memories, Robert recalled memories of Verdon Higgins, who along with Genelle Day were our Class Sponsors. They invested their lives in us and many other students at Mt. Carmel. He then presented Mrs. Verdon Higgins, our Honorary Class Sponsor, a certificate of appreciation that was signed by the class officers present. The meeting ended too quickly, but the next reunion is only five years away.
