Dr. Karon Schwartz, Ph.D., RN, is the Graduate Nursing Program Director at Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN. Dr. Schwartz received her Bachelors of Nursing from Goshen College, and her Masters of Science in Nursing Administration and Adult Medical – Surgical Nursing from Andrews University. She received her Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Her research interest is “Breast cancer, health beliefs, values and practices of Amish women." She participated in breast cancer research in Kenya Africa with a research team from Wayne State University. She has a teaching career of 15 years in Staff Development, Community Colleges, and Baccalaureate programs. She has been active in curriculum and program development and evaluation at each of these levels of education. She works in consulting in Core Measures and Medical Statistics, as well as current clinical experience in the hospital setting working in direct patient care. She serves on the Research and Practice Committees, and Pathway Development committees and has been pivotal in developing patient education resource booklets for patients in a small rural hospital in Michigan. She is active in community service, attending the needs of the Amish in her community as needed, and teaches classes in health care topics to church and community groups. |
